“Global Capstone Design” launched by YU Department of Sociology is attracting attention as a college innovation class.

Global Capstone Design is a class for colleges to strengthen Industry-academy-research cooperation in order to generate corporate value, support employment & startup, and construct sharing/cooperation systems and is implemented as “3rd Leaders in Industry-university Cooperation (LINC 3.0).” of the Ministry of Education.

The subject of Global Capstone Design class of YU Department of Sociology was “Seeking for a vitalization plan for Cheongdo and Gunwi in crisis of local extinction.”The students of the class were divided into four teams for Cheongdo and four teams for Gunwi and sought for problems through field survey and suggested a local vitalization plan in consideration of probability and effect of the achievement. The students suggested various ideas such as production of characters and goods using local specialties including Cheongdo persimmon, etc., PR plans for local tour of Cheongdo Eupseong and Gunwi Volcano Village, etc., production of PR videos with foreigner students, etc.

Professor JEONG Yong-gyo of Department of Sociology planned Global Capstone Design class and said, “The university should provide field classes escaping from classrooms. Especially, the students majoring in sociology should grow various views to look at social phenomena. Recently, central government and local governments establish various policies and input fund in order to prevent local extinction. However, if the youth has no interest, they are merely sand castles. The students found attractive matters of Korean agricultural villages and suggested local vitalization plans by identifying problems in agricultural areas and seeking for various solutions through the Global Capstone Design class.”

During this winter vacation, the students of YU Department of Sociology visited Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics, Vietnam to share outcomes of Global Capstone Design class with foreign universities. Their purpose was to share the outcomes of Global Capstone Design class and to continue exchange between the two. YU students had the time to present outcomes of last semester’s duties and to make Q&A for the students and professors of Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics.
